Όταν η Τέχνη μιλά κατά των όπλων

Ως απάντηση στις ένοπλες επιθέσεις στις ΗΠΑ και σε ένδειξη στήριξης των εκκλήσεων μαθητών για αυστηρότερο έλεγχο των όπλων, η καλλιτέχνης Jenny Holzer έγραψε ένα κείμενο που θίγει θέματα σχετικά με τη βιομηχανία των πυροβόλων όπλων και τη βία.

Το κείμενο σε ασπρόμαυρη γραφή αναβοσβήνει σε κινούμενες οθόνες LED, με γρήγορη διαδοχή, όπως η ποίηση ελεύθερων συνειρμών και μερικές φορές με τέτοια ταχύτητα όπως οι ριπές ημιαυτόματων

όπλων. Λέξεις όπως RED BLOOD (Κόκκινο Αίμα) και WHITES OF EYES (Λευκά των Ματιών) αντιπαραβάλλονται με τρυφερές εκκλήσεις όπως SHIELD HIM/SHIELD HER (Προστάτευσέ τον/την) ή STAY WITH ME CHILD (Μείνε μαζί μου παιδί) και συνδυάζονται με φράσεις που χρησιμοποιεί το λόμπι υπέρ της οπλοκατοχής.

Καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του Μαρτίου και του Απριλίου 2018, στο πλαίσιο του project «It is guns» φορτηγά κυκλοφορούσαν στην Νέα Υόρκη, στην Ουάσιγκτον, στο Λος Άντζελες, στο Ταλαχάσι, στο Παλμ Μπιτς, στο Μαϊάμι, στην Τάμπα, στο Σικάγο, στην Ατλάντα και στο Ντάλας, σύμφωνα με το The Cut.

Τα φορτηγά με τις οθόνες πρόβαλαν το ανώνυμο περιεχόμενο από νωρίς το απόγευμα μέχρι αργά το βράδυ – παραμένοντας μπροστά σε κυβερνητικά κτίρια και σε εμβληματικά σημεία κάθε πόλης, σταματούσαν σε πλατείες και χώρους στάθμευσης σε ώρες κυκλοφοριακής αιχμής στις κύριες αρτηρίες των πόλεων.

Φωτογραφίες και βίντεο από το πρότζεκτ φιλοξενούνται στην γκαλερί Tate του Λονδίνου, μέχρι το ερχόμενο καλοκαίρι, σε έκθεση αφιερωμένη στην Αμερικανίδα εννοιολογική καλλιτέχνιδα Jenny Holzer, γνωστή για τις δημιουργικές της ιδέες, τις εγκαταστάσεις βασισμένες στα κείμενα με πολιτικό περιεχόμενο και την αξιοποίηση της σύγχρονης τεχνολογίας.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της 40ετούς καριέρας της, η Holzer έχει χρησιμοποιήσει τα πιο εξελιγμένα μέσα και ψηφιακές τεχνολογίες στην παραγωγή των έργων της, όπως: εικονική πραγματικότητα, drones, προβολές, net art και ρομποτικά συστήματα.
