Αργά την Παρασκευή, η General Motors ανακοίνωσε την ανάκληση 370.000 Chevrolet Silverado και GMC Sierra για πιθανό κίνδυνο φωτιάς. Τα μοντέλα είναι όλα του 2014 και εφοδιάζονται με τον 4.3 λίτρων V6 ή με τον 5.3 λίτρων V8. Ο κίνδυνος φωτιάς αφορά το engine bay και σύμφωνα με το δελτίο τύπου προκαλείται από την υπερθέρμανση κάποιων εξαρτημάτων της εξάτμισης.

που προκλήθηκαν από αυτό το πρόβλημα, όλες σε περιοχές με πολύ χαμηλές θερμοκρασίες. Ευτυχώς δεν αναφέρθηκαν τραυματισμοί (ή τίποτε χειρότερο) από τις φωτιές. Όπως και να έχει, η GM προτρέπει τους πελάτες της να μην αφήνουν τα οχήματα με τον κινητήρα να λειτουργεί στο ρελαντί χωρίς επίβλεψη.

Ο κατασκευαστής θα ξεκινήσει να στέλνει τις επιστολές στους ιδιοκτήτες από τις 16 Ιανουαρίου ενώ η λύση που έχει βρεθεί, αφορά έναν απλό αναπρογραμματισμό που δεν θα διαρκεί πάνω από 20 λεπτά. Τέλος, να αναφέρουμε πως η ανάκληση αφορά οχήματα που έχουν πωληθεί στις Η.Π.Α., τον Καναδά και το Μεξικό.

GM to Recall Certain Full-size Pickup Trucks01/10/2014

DETROIT – General Motors announced Friday it plans to recall certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks to reprogram software that could lead to overheating of exhaust components, potentially causing engine compartment fires.

GM is contacting customers to alert them of the potential issue, which often is signaled by a continuous yellow “check engine light” and an “engine power reduced” message in the driver information center. GM has confirmed eight fires from this condition, three of which were on customer owned vehicles, but no injuries. All occurred in areas with very cold weather.

Recall letters will be mailed Jan. 16, but customers can contact dealers for appointments beginning early next week. The repair will take about 20 minutes, although dealership wait times can vary. Until then, customers are urged to avoid leaving their trucks to idle unattended.

GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it would recall about 303,000 trucks with 4.3-liter and 5.3-liter engines in the U.S. Approximately 67,000 additional trucks that were exported and sold in Canada and Mexico also are being recalled. Trucks with 6.2-liter engines are not part of the recall.
