Μια Porsche 959 “Komfort” θα δημοπρατηθεί από τον οίκο Mecum Auctions κατά την διάρκεια του Pebble Beach με τον οίκο να εικάζει πως το κόστος θα κυμανθεί μεταξύ 995.000 ευρώ και 1.170.000 ευρώ .

Αρχικά ο λόγος κατασκευής της 959 ήταν διότι η Porsche προκειμένου να λάβει μέρος με την Group B Rally έκδοση του αυτοκινήτου θα έπρεπε

να δημιουργήσει τουλάχιστον 200 μονάδες road-legal οχημάτων. Έτσι λοιπόν το supercar εξοπλίστηκε με έναν επίπεδο εξακύλινδρο κινητήρα χωρητικότητας 2.85 λίτρων και απόδοσης 450 ίππων, σειριακά turbo, 5-τάχυτο κιβώτιο ταχυτήτων, προηγμένο ηλεκτρονικό σύστημα τετρακίνησης, ABS και ρυθμιζόμενη ανάρτηση καθ ύψος και απόσβεση, ενώ έχει γίνει χρήση Αλουμινίου, Carbon Kevlar και άλλων συνθετικών υλικών για την κατασκευή ενός ελαφρύτερου αμαξώματος. Καθιστώντας το 1986 την Porsche 959, το ταχύτερο αυτοκίνητο στον κόσμο, φτάνοντας τα 195mph (314 χλμ/ώρα), ρεκόρ που το διατήρησε για έναν μόνο χρόνο, με την F40 να γίνεται το πρώτο αυτοκίνητο παραγωγής που σπάει το φράγμα των 200 mhp (322 χλμ/ώρα).

Εμφανισιακά το supercar είναι βαμμένο σε Guards Red χρώμα ενώ διαθέτει Triple Gray εσωτερικό με θερμαινόμενα bucket καθίσματα, με την μόνη παραφωνία να είναι το cd-player εγκατέστησε ο πρώτος ιδιοκτήτης.

Η συγκεκριμένη 959 διαθέτει επιπλέον, πλήρες σετ εργαλείων, τα απαραίτητα εγχειρίδια για τον ιδιοκτήτη αλλά και τον μηχανικό, ενώ επίσης αναγράφεται αναλυτικά το ιστορικό ιδιοκτησίας του και όλες οι επενδυτικές ενέργειες που έγιναν για να παραμείνει το αυτοκίνητο στην υπάρχουσα κατάσταση, ποσό που αγγίζει τις 27.000€, ενώ είναι η 36η από τις 292 που κατασκευάστηκαν, πράγμα που δικαιολογεί το υψηλό κόστος αγοράς.

The 959 was born of a requirement from the FIA for Porsche to build 200 road going units of their 959 Prototype to homologate their efforts in Group B Rally. The 959 represented a first for implementing systems like ABS, adjustable ride height, adjustable suspension dampening, variable turbine geometry turbos, the use of Carbon Kevlar and other composites during construction and even lightweight hollow wheels. All while preserving a fine level of modern comfort.

Soon after the introduction of the 959, it was announced that no cars would allocated to U.S. Customers due to the cars non-conformity with DOT and EPA regulations. This represented a bump in the road for what at the time was the ultimate Porsche. A handful of 959s did make it to the states via Holbert Porsche but remained in the back of the dealerships lot until it was affirmed that the cars would remain illegal and the whole lot were sent back to Porsche in Germany. The 959 continues the tradition like that of other Porsches—a car to be used and enjoyed, reliably so, and without fault. Its interior is heavy on 1980s appeal and feel throughout, consistent with the use of new and modern materials in the rest of the car. This German specification model features a triple grey interior, heated and electrically adjustable sport seats, alarm system and Bridgestone Tires. The only deviation from original specification is the installation of a period correct McIntosh sound system with CD player is the one after-factory addition to this car.
