The Cyprus Institute (CyI, www.cyi.ac.cy), is a non-profit science and technology research and educational institution and is currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated and versatile professional for the position of Finance Officer whose primary responsibility will be the Institute’s financial project

management.

Job Description

As a member of the Accounts Department, the Finance Officer will be responsible to support the Institute’s research activities through establishing the appropriate finance related procedures and managing the finances of all research grants and projects. Furthermore, the holder of this position will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of financial reporting, planning and monitoring relevant to the implementation and compliance of project agreements with respect to research programs. More specifically, the holder of the position will have, among others, the below responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Project Management
To work closely with the Office of Sponsored Research and other Research leadership and staff to ensure the proper management of research grants
To ensure that the implementation and management of project finances comply with the required sponsor and CyI regulations
To provide support and guidance to Research staff through meetings, training, awareness-raising sessions relevant to project finances and timesheets
To provide support in the preparation, consolidation, monitoring and reporting of budgets in compliance with CyI regulations and procedures
To monitor expenditure of research grants, to provide reports to the appropriate authorities on a periodic basis and to prepare forecasts relevant to the research grants
To establish and to maintain all relevant records and documentation necessary to the proper management of project finances.

2. Other Finance and Accounts related activities
To assist in the development of general finance related policies and procedures as well as to make suggestions for the better financial management of the Institute’s activities.
To prepare financial reports for the CyI leadership and management as well as for government authorities and other funding bodies for purposes such as audits.
To carry out other finance and accounts related activities as needed.

Qualifications

University degree (or equivalent) in Finance and/or Accounting related studies. Master degrees and/or professional accounting qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CPA will be considered an advantage
Previous experience and/or specialization to the management of EU research project funding will be considered an advantage
Previous relevant experience of at least 3 years
Excellent knowledge of the English language. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage.
Excellent IT skills in MS Office and particularly in Excel as well as ability in the use of other software and systems.
High level organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to multitask changing priorities with limited supervision in a high-pressure work environment
High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt in a multicultural environment
The appointment will be initially for a fixed term period with the possibility of renewal. The salary will depend on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
