Athens Airport Sees Soaring Passenger Numbers in 2024

Athens International Airport (AIA) is experiencing a surge in passenger traffic this year, signaling a strong rebound for tourism and travel in Greece.

The airport has already welcomed 27.57 million passengers from January to October, a 12.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

This growth rate surpasses many other European airports, highlighting Greece's rapid

recovery in the travel sector.

October was a particularly busy month, with 3.01 million passengers passing through the airport, a 10% jump from October 2023. Both domestic and international travel contributed to this increase, with international passenger numbers showing especially strong growth at 11.1%.

Overall, domestic passenger traffic is up 7.3% for the first ten months of 2024, while international traffic has surged by 15.5%.

The increase in travelers has been accompanied by a rise in flight activity, with AIA recording an 11% increase in flights compared to last year.

The positive trend follows a record-breaking year in 2023, when AIA handled over 28 million passengers, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

The continued growth in 2024 demonstrates the enduring appeal of Greece as a travel destination and the vital role that Athens International Airport plays in the country's economic recovery.
