Athens Archaeological Sites to Close Early Due to Heat

All archaeological sites in Athens will remain closed from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. because of high temperatures gripping Greece.

The Ministry of Culture made the announcement, citing concerns for the safety of visitors and staff. The decision comes after an alert from relevant authorities. A heatwave gripping the country, now in its 11th day, is set to continue through Sunday, according to weather experts.

Temperatures are expected to remain above 40°C (104°F) nationwide, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

While a slight decrease in temperatures is expected next week, the mercury will still remain high in parts of central and southern Greece.
