Authorities Detain Migrants, Arrest Smuggler on Chios

Greek authorities have detained 28 migrants and arrested a suspected smuggler on the island of Chios. The operation, conducted by the Port Authority of Kardamyla and police, took place over two days.

On Wednesday, 20 migrants were found in the coastal area of Vlychada and transferred to the Chios Reception and Identification Center.

A subsequent search uncovered seven more migrants and a 31-year-old man identified as their smuggler. The suspect was arrested on charges of human trafficking and facilitating illegal entry.

Authorities are investigating the incident, which underscores the persistent challenges of irregular migration and smuggling networks operating in the Aegean region.
