British TV doctor missing on Greek island

An intensive search effort is currently in progress for television personality Dr. Michael Mosley, who has been reported missing during a seaside stroll while vacationing in Greece.

Police said they were investigating a possible sighting of the celebrity doctor in Pedi by a local woman. They said the sighting had yet to be verified and investigators were reviewing footage from local security cameras.

Dr. Mosley, known for introducing the 5:2 diet,

is suspected to have suffered a fall after embarking on a midday hike last Wednesday.

Concerns grew when Dr. Mosley, aged 67, did not return by 7:30 pm, prompting his spouse, Dr. Clare Bailey, to notify the authorities. It is presumed that Dr. Mosley disappeared en route to his lodging in Pedi from a nearby beach in St Nicholas, roughly one kilometer away.

Senior police official Constantina Dimoglidou stated, “The fire department has been called upon to aid in the search, considering the possibility that he might have fallen, sustained an injury, or even been bitten by a snake. We have found no sign of him, which keeps all potential scenarios under consideration.”

Officials said a special helicopter had joined in the search and a police dog was due to arrive on the island on Friday to help in the operation.

Efforts to retrace Dr. Mosley’s path commenced on Wednesday evening along St Nicholas Beach on the island of Symi, yet he remains unlocated. The search expanded on Thursday with the deployment of drones and a rescue team. An appeal for information was broadcasted through a local Symi Facebook group, accompanied by a photo of Dr. Mosley clad in a blue polo, cap, and sunglasses.

The post inquired, “Have you seen this individual? He departed for a walk from St Nick’s around 1:30 pm and hasn’t returned. Concern is mounting as it’s been over six hours since his last sighting.”

Dr. Mosley is well-recognized in the UK for his BBC appearances. The local police, coastguard, and EMAK, the island’s rescue squad, are all engaged in the search.

Dr. Mosley’s work includes documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, such as “Who Made Britain Fat?”, “How To Sleep Well”, and “Secrets of Your Big Shop”, as well as guest spots on “The One Show” and “This Morning”. The Athens police force is also actively involved in the investigation, with additional support from the coastguard.

Symi, an island situated closer to Turkey than mainland Greece, is a renowned and refined destination in the eastern Aegean Sea.

Reputed as the origin of the legendary Three Graces and named after the nymph Syme, Symi is part of the Dodecanese archipelago, with Rhodes being the largest island in the group.

The island, known for its limited number of large hotels, is a favorite among yachters and those who enjoy island-hopping. Its harbor is encircled by steep hills, creating a natural amphitheater-like setting.
