EU's Borrell: Greek-Polish initiative on European defense shield 'entirely logical'

BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/M. Aroni) - The initiative of the Prime Ministers of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Poland, Donald Tusk, on the creation of a European anti-missile dome was discussed at the EU's Foreign Affairs Council in its defence configuration on Tuesday, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

During a press conference afterwards, Borrell said that the initiative sounds 'entirely logical' for the protection of the entire European airspace, but is a technically complicated issue. Such a decision lies with ministers of defense, he said, while the issue should also be examined from the aspect of EU's budget, which cannot fund armaments. In addition, an anti-missile system must be planned, decided, and managed by the army, not by EU staff.
