Elon Musk Highlights Greece's Shrinking Population

Tech mogul Elon Musk has once again drawn attention to Greece's declining population.

In a recent post on X, he shared a user's comment referencing an article that predicted a significant population decrease in the country by 2070.

The article highlighted the low birth rate in Greece, which is currently at 1.32 births per woman. This, combined with an aging population, poses significant economic and social challenges for the nation. The government

has implemented various measures to address this issue, including tax incentives and family support programs.

Musk's post comes just months after he shared a similar article in April.

While the specific article he shared in April was criticized for promoting fake news and conspiracy theories, the underlying issue of Greece's declining population remains a pressing concern.

According to the latest data from ELSTAT, the gap between births and deaths in Greece continues to widen. In 2023, there were only 73,000 births compared to 127,581 deaths.

This alarming trend is a direct result of the low birth rate and an aging population.

While the number of births has decreased, it's important to note that this is primarily due to a decline in the population of reproductive age.

The average age of women giving birth has also increased over the years, with more women in their late 30s and early 40s having children.
