Greece and Turkey propose joint candidacy for OSCE leadership

In a surprising move, Greece and Turkey have jointly nominated two candidates for key positions within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). 

The initiative aims to break the election deadlock caused by the need for unanimous approval among member

states.

If successful, Greece would secure a significant role in the OSCE, enabling it to influence international affairs more effectively. 

However, the proposal has sparked controversy due to the Turkish candidate's past anti-Greek statements.

Greek officials defend the decision, stating that these views represent official Turkish diplomacy and not personal opinions. They emphasise the importance of pursuing peace and dialogue while upholding Greece's national interests and security.

Critics from opposition parties have voiced concerns about the proposal, citing the Turkish candidate's history of anti-Greek rhetoric and its potential negative impact on Greece's interests.
