Greece braces for heatwave

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has issued a heatwave advisory starting tomorrow, with temperatures expected to soar above 41-42 degrees Celsius (105.8-107.6 degrees Fahrenheit) by Wednesday, particularly in mainland regions.

The weather forecast for Monday indicates generally clear skies with temporary cloudiness,

especially in the west, central, and northern parts of the country. Afternoon showers are predicted in the mountainous areas, primarily in the north.

Meteorological conditions are favorable for the transport of African dust across the region.

Winds will vary between 3 to 4 Beaufort and will gradually shift to western directions up to 5 Beaufort in the central and southern parts of the country. The Aegean Sea will experience northerly winds up to 5 Beaufort in the morning.

A significant temperature rise is expected nationwide. Inland areas will see temperatures between 34-38 degrees Celsius (93.2-100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), potentially reaching 39 degrees Celsius (102.2 degrees Fahrenheit). The island regions will experience slightly lower temperatures, ranging from 31-34 degrees Celsius (87.8-93.2 degrees Fahrenheit).

The heatwave is anticipated to peak on Wednesday but will persist with high temperatures through Thursday and Friday, with a slight decrease expected mainly in the northwest.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat and stay informed about further updates from the HNMS.
