Narcotics officials find cocaine shipment worth 1 mln euros at Piraeus port

A shipment of cocaine worth over 1 million euros was located on a ship in Piraeus early on Monday morning by officers of the Narcotics and Smuggling Directorate, the Regional Narcotics Task Force, and the Central Port Authority of Piraeus' Security Office.

The operation took place with the collaboration of the US Homeland Security Investigations in the US embassy in Athens.

The cocaine was in the form of slabs in 30 packages weighing a total of 34,350 grams (gross), found on a ship that had tied at the Piraeus Port Containers Terminal. They were hidden in the refrigeration unit of a container with bananas loaded in Ecuador. Two more containers were checked but no drugs were found in them.

The Piraeus Central Port authorities are continuing investigations to locate the recipients of the drug shipment.
