Pasok leadership race heats up in Western Greece

The race for the leadership of the socialist Pasok party is intensifying in Western Greece, a region where the party has consistently outperformed national averages.

As candidates vie for support, current standings reveal a tight competition, according to a recent poll.

Nikos Androulakis currently

leads in popularity with an approval rating of 48.4 percent, although he also faces the highest disapproval rate. Pavlos Geroulanos follows closely with a 47.2 percent approval rating, followed by Christos Doukas with a 41.5%.

Mr. Androulakis again leads with a 66.1 percent approval rating among Pasok supporters, according to a survey by Prorate. Mr. Doukas is second at 60.5 percent, followed by Mr. Geroulanos at 59.3 percent. Michalis Katrinis trails behind at 57.1 percent and Anna Diamantopoulou at 54.2% .

In leadership suitability, the survey showed Mr. Doukas edging over Mr. Androulakis in preference.

A survey by the newspaper Peloponnisos also showed strong support for Pasok in Western Greece, with forecasts of Mr. Androulakis clearing first at 24.6 percent if elections were held today, followed by Mr. Doukas at 23.4 percent.
