Seventy-six SYRIZA members resign from Central Committee, party

Seventy-six members of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance's Central Committee submitted their resignation to party secretary Rania Svigou on Tuesday, citing "undemocratic procedures" at both the recently held party congress and the party in general. The 76 also resigned their party

membership as well.

In a letter to Svigou, they said, among other things, "Whatever took place before and during the SYRIZA-PA congress does not allow us any longer to participate as members of the party and its organs, for political and ethical reasons. The facts of the artificial majorities formed for the sole purpose of invalidating the election of president Stefanos Kasselakis, who had been elected by the party base, and of expelling him, as well as the authoritarian way of dealing with the conditional minority of the Central Committee organ to which we belong, and the antidemocratic procedures followed, prove that today's SYRIZA-PA is in absolute contradiction with the founding charter approved in 2022."

The letter included all of their names.

Earlier on the same day, party member Olympia Teligioridou resigned from the Political Secretariat and the Central Committee, in a statement distributed by Kasselakis' office. She also cited exclusionary procedures at the congress, where she said "SYRIZA-PA's basic terms and rules of operation were not followed."
