Snow Chains Mandatory in Attica as Winter Storm Intensifies

Witha major winter storm bearing down on Greece, authorities in Atticaare requiring all vehicles to be equipped with snow chains or wintertires starting Friday night at 10 pm. 

Themandatory order, issued in response to a severe weather warning fromthe National

Meteorological Service, will remain in effect untilfurther notice.

Inaddition to the snow chain requirement, heavy vehicles weighing morethan 3.5 tons will be banned from several major roads in Attica,regardless of whether they have snow chains. 

Therestriction will be in place from 10 pm Friday to 4 pm Saturday onthe Athens-Lamia highway in both directions, from the Kalyftakiinterchange in Kifissia to the northern border of Attica. Heavyvehicles will also be prohibited on the Elefsina-Thiva road duringthis time.

Similarsnow chain requirements have been issued for several other regions incentral and northern Greece, including Viotia, Evia, Fthiotida,Thessaly, Western Macedonia, and parts of Central Macedonia.

Themeasures are aimed at ensuring safety and preventing trafficdisruptions as heavy snow and icy conditions are expected to impactmuch of the country. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, stayinformed about weather updates, and adhere to the new regulations toensure safe travel during the storm.
