Tourism set for record year, but vigilance needed

Greek tourism is set to soar even higher in 2024, building on a significant revenue boom from the previous year, according to the country’s National Bank.

A report on the first quarter shows  promising growth for the tourism sector, with revenues expected to surpass 22 billion euros

and tourist numbers to exceed 35 million. 

The previous year saw earning of about 20 billion euros. 

The early part of 2024 has seen a strong start, with air travel arrivals indicating a double-digit percentage increase. Greek hoteliers are experiencing unprecedented demand, setting a new record for the Mediterranean market despite previous challenges.

The positive trend is bolstered by a recovering consumer climate and an increase in international flights, including new routes to high-spending destinations. 

Early bookings have surged by 21 percent, signalling robust demand for the year.

Despite geopolitical and climate concerns, Greek tourism is demonstrating resilience and is on track to set new records. 

The industry’s focus has expanded to include sustainability and quality, aiming for a balanced distribution of tourist activity.

The sector, supported by aligned institutions, is moving towards these goals, as highlighted by the National Bank’s study.
