Wildfire continues to rage at Stimanga, Corinth, with additional reinforcements

A wildfire that broke out earlier on Thursday afternoon in Stimanga, Corinth, is out of control and spreading, but without threatening residences.

According to Fire Brigade spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakogiannis, the fire began in and is spreading through a ravine with steep slopes and dense vegetation.

The firefighting forces were reinforced a second time,

currently totaling 159 firefighters, including 6 forest firefighting teams and 49 vehicles deployed to contain the blaze. Additionally, there are 11 planes and 8 helicopters periodically aiding from above, with 2 of the helicopters aircraft dedicated to coordinating operations.

A coordination meeting convened by Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vasilis Kikilias with the participation of local government officials and security agencies to strategize for the fire concluded late on Thursday afternoon.

Vathrakogiannis also reported a total of 50 agricultural and forest fires had taken place in the past 24 hours, with 45 contained at their initial stages, while firefighting forces are actively managing five remaining blazes.

Late Thursday afternoon, a message was sent via 112 emergency messaging system to alert residents in the broader Stιmanga area to a possible evacuation and urging them to follow authorities' instructions.
