Passengers are satisfied with public transport services, survey shows

The new pricing of day tickets, the introduction of a 'smart card' and the gradual replacement of tickets, the operation of telematic tables and the further expansion of the metro and tram are among the intentions of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), according to the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), which evaluated public
transport services in Attica.

CRES and OASA collaborated under the European project ENERQI from February 2012 until the end of 2013 on the evaluation of the quality of services taking into consideration passengers’ daily comments.

According to the results, passengers are satisfied with the operation of public transport. More specifically, 40 percent of the 1,071 passengers surveyed rate the operation of public transport as very good or excellent, 35.4 percent consider it satisfactory, 18.2 percent believe improvements are needed and 5 percent consider their operation unsuccessful.

Passengers said they prefer to use metro or tram rather than city buses or trolley buses and that they had not been adequately informed in cases of emergency while they mentioned lack of services in specific areas.
