The stability of the government is a fundamental condition for the stability of the country and the economy, Government Vice-President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos told his PASOK party’s parliamentary group meeting on Friday.

“There is not only an issue of the stability of the

government but also of the stability of the economy and the country,” he said referring to the elections.

He noted that he had never referred to numbers and percentages but to the combined result of all polls, the local government and European parliament elections. “Society’s ultimate political feeling is important,” he underlined.

He said he had never spoken of a withdrawal from the government. “The government is in place because we are implementing a strategy which others adopted with a delay,” he said.

He also stressed that “we will not analyze the elections’ result now, this will happen after the polls” and added that “we are now shaping in a dynamic way the result of the elections”.

“Our primary responsibility is to continue this great national effort but that depends on the people’s will,” he noted. He added that the elections are a test not only for PASOK and Elia but also for the stance of all political forces and mainly for the country’s course.
