Greek jobless rate rises to 27.8 pct in Oct

The statistics service, in a report, said that unemployment among men totaled 24.7 pct while among women was 32.1 pct in October.
The unemployment rate in the age group 15-24 was 57.9 pct,

in the 25-34 age group was 37.8 pct, in the 35-44 age group was 23.8 pct, in the 45-54 age group was 20.8 pct, in the 55-64 age group was 16.6 pct and in the 65-74 age group was 14.7 pct.
The statistics service said that the number of employed people totaled 3,597,779 in October, while the number of unemployed was 1,387,520.
The number of employed people fell by 94,531 in October, compared with the same month last year and by 21,861 compared with September 2013.
The number of unemployed people rose by 85,314 compared with the same month last year and fell by 1,111 compared with September 2013.
In a statement also released on Thursday, the Workforce Employment Organization (OAED) said the number of registered unemployed people grew by 0.82 pct, or 7.282, in November.
The number of registered unemployed people totaled 858,882 in November, of which 418,071 were unemployed for more than 12 months and 440,811 for less than 12 months. The number of unemployed people was 851,600 in October and 786,236 in November 2012.
OAED said that unemployment mostly hit women and the 30-54 age group. A 40.74 pct of the unemployed were men and 59.26 pct were women. Greek citizens accounted for 93.70 pct of total unemployed people (804,736), EU citizens accounted for 1.50 pct (12,847) and third-country citizens accounted for 4.81 pct (41,299).
The number of unemployed people receiving unemployment benefit totaled 131,089 in November, down from 214,573 in November 2012.
