David Bowie Font "Inspired by the written word of five of the music world’s most prolific songwriters, designers Nicolas Damiens and Julien Sens have gifted us a collection of fonts that serve as the next best thing to the artists’ own penmanship. Titled ‘Songwriters Fonts’, the project sees Damiens and Sens painstakingly reproducing the handwriting of David Bowie, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen, Kurt Cobain and Serge Gainsbourg for use in the digital space. Using notes and musings by the late musicians as references, including the suicide note that presumably served as Cobain’s last article of handwriting, the font packs were created to “give musicians inspiration” and develop the imagination of today’s songwriters, who now increasingly work in the digital space for the creative process of producing music, including lyric writing." #davidbowie #font #nicholasdamians #juliensens #music #writing @juicesg

Τους πήρε έναν μήνα για να δημιουργήσουν τις πέντε γραμματοσειρές -στοχεύουν να επεκταθούν με αυτές του Αμερικανού ράπερ The Notorious BIG και της JanisJoplin, βασιζόμενοι σε «αυθεντικά γράμματα και σημειώσεις» που οι μουσικοί είχαν γράψει με το χέρι.

Το όνομα της σειράς γραμματοσειρών είναι «Songwriter Fonts» κι αυτές περιλαμβάνουν γράμματα, αριθμούς και σύμβολα, τα οποία αποσκοπούν να εμπνεύσουν τραγουδοποιούς σ′ όλο τον κόσμομέσω της ικανότητας να γράφουν με τη ιδιόχειρη γραφή του αγαπημένου τους μουσικού.

«Εξελίξαμε τη γραμματοσειρά έχοντας κατά νου ότι μπορούσε να βοηθήσει τη φαντασία ενός τραγουδοποιού με το να χρησιμοποιεί την ιδιόχειρη γραφή θρυλικών μουσικών - είναι σαν να παίζεις στο πιάνο του Lennon ή με την κιθάρα του Cobain» είπαν οι Sens και Daniens. «Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι θα είσαι σε θέση να παίζεις (τα μουσικά όργανα) όπως έπαιζαν αυτοί, αλλά πιθανά θα σε βάλει σε μια ειδική διάθεση και ίσως θα παίζεις με διαφορετικό τρόπο, σκεφτόμενος αυτούς», πρόσθεσαν.

SONGWRITER FONTS Kurt Cobain, David Bowie and John Lennon's handwriting (amongst others) has been transformed into a series of new typefaces by French designers Julien Sens and Nicolas Damiens. The designers spent months developing five (free-to-use) type fonts in total, using "original handwritten letters and notes" scribed by the musicians. Ξεκίνησαν την έρευνα από ντοκουμέντα γραμμένα με το χέρι -συμπεριλαμβανομένης της επιστολής που άφησε ο Cobain πριν αυτοκτονήσει- σε ιστότοπους και δημόσιες βιβλιοθήκες. Χρειάζονταν όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερα για να μπορέσουν να συγκροτήσουν το «αλφάβητο» του κάθε μουσικού. «Έτρωγε χρόνο αυτή η δουλειά, αλλά είμαστε όλο ευγνωμοσύνη που μετά από ώρες έρευνας βρήκαμε τελικά τα γράμματα που έλειπαν» εξήγησαν στο Dezeen.

Στη συνέχεια, χρησιμοποιώντας λογισμικό για δημιουργία γραμματοσειρών, αναπαρήγαγαν ψηφιακά κάθε σύμβολο. Ομολόγησαν ότι δυσκολεύθηκαν πιο πολύ με τις γραμματοσειρές του Cohen και του Gainsbourg, αλλά κατάφεραν να τις ολοκλήρωσουν.
