H Mazda ξεκίνησε τη παραγωγή του νέου MX-5 στο Ujina εργοστάσιο της στη Χιροσίμα. Τα πρώτα αυτοκίνητα προορίζονται για την Ιαπωνική αγορά, με τις πωλήσεις του να ξεκινούν από τον Ιούνιο.

Η τέταρτη γενιά του μικρού ιαπωνικού roadster θα φορά έναν 1.500αρη ατμοσφαιρικό απόδοσης 131 ίππων στις 7.000 σ.α.λ. και 150 Nm ροπή στις 4.800 σ.α.λ. Ο κινητήρας είναι εξολοκλήρου φτιαγμένος από αλουμίνιο, διαθέτει άμεσο ψεκασμό ενώ ανήκει στην οικογένεια τεχνολογίας SKYACTIV G.

Ο συγκεκριμένος κινητήρας

αποτελεί τον καλύτερο συμβιβασμό επιδόσεων και οικονομίας καυσίμου ενώ με δεδομένο το χαμηλό βάρος, αναμένεται να μην έχει ιδιαίτερα προβλήματα στην κίνηση του MX-5 με ικανοποιητικό ρυθμό. Συνδυάζεται με ένα 6-τάχυτο μηχανικό κιβώτιο, στέλνοντας τη κίνηση στο σωστό πίσω άξονα, και υπάρχει το ενδεχόμενο στο μέλλον να προσφερθεί και με ένα αυτόματο. Πατάει σε αλουμινένιες ζάντες 16 ιντσών και ελαστικά 195/50, ενώ το συνολικό του βάρος φτάνει ακριβώς τα 1.000 κιλά, έχοντας τέλεια κατανομή 50/50 ανάμεσα στους άξονες. Η μέση μικτή κατανάλωση που ανακοινώνει το εργοστάσιο είναι 5,9 λίτρα/100 χλμ., ενώ εκπέμπει 139 γρ/χλμ.

Επίσης θα υπάρχει και ο 2,0-λιτρος SkyActiv κινητήρα με 155 ή 165 άλογα, ο οποίος θα είναι διαθέσιμος τόσο στην Αμερική, όσο και στην Ευρώπη και θα συνδυάζεται με το ίδιο μηχανικό κιβώτιο, και θα είναι ο μοναδικός που θα πάει στην Αμερική.

Το νέο MX-5 είναι μικρότερο σε μήκος τόσο από το μοντέλο που αντικαθιστά (κατά 10.5 εκατοστά), όσο και από την πρώτη γενιά (κατά 3.5 εκατοστά) αλλά είναι πλατύτερο και έχει μεγαλύτερο μεταξόνιο. Τα παραπάνω κιλά το κάνουν να είναι ελαφρύτερο από το NC κατά 100 κιλά, και περίπου 20 κιλά από την πρώτη γενιά MX-5 παρά τον σημαντικά πλουσιότερο εξοπλισμό ασφαλείας και άνεσης. Αξίζει να τονιστεί πως το βάρος ενός μοντέλου διαφοροποιείται από αγορά σε αγορά. Πχ, 1.000 κιλά μπορεί να ζυγίζει η βασική έκδοση στην Ιαπωνική αγορά ενώ στην Ευρωπαϊκή, η ίδια φαινομενικά έκδοση, μπορεί να ζυγίζει 1.020 ή 1.040.

Το νέο Miata στην ουσία πρόκειται για το δεύτερο ολοκαίνουριο MX-5 στην ιστορία του μοντέλου αφού η δεύτερη γενικά βασιζόταν στην πρώτη και η τρίτη στο RX-8. Είναι η πρώτη φορά που χρησιμοποιείται η πισωκίνητη εκδοχή του SKYACTIV chassis της Mazda που θυμίζω πως θα αποτελεί την βάση κι άλλων μοντέλων ενώ για πρώτη φορά, το τιμόνι του MX-5 είναι ηλεκτρικό με 2,5 στροφές από άκρη-σε-άκρη και περιγράφεται ότι θα έχει εξαιρετικά άμεση αίσθηση.

Mazda Starts Production of All-new Mazda MX-5

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation today began production of the all-new Mazda MX-5 two-seater lightweight sports car (known as Mazda Roadster in Japan) at Ujina Plant No.1 in Hiroshima. The first models produced are destined for the Japanese market. Sales of the all-new MX-5 will begin in Japan around June this year and interested buyers can make an appointment for pre-sale discussions through a dedicated website from noon on Friday, March 20. Following sales start in Japan, the MX-5 will be progressively rolled out to overseas markets.

The MX-5 is an iconic model representing Mazda’s vehicle engineering philosophy: the pursuit of driving pleasure. With production exceeding 950,000 units as of the end of January 2015, the MX-5 continues to hold the Guinness World Record for the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car.

In order to respond to ever increasing demands for safety features and environmental performance while maintaining the element of fun that has always defined the model, development of the fourth generation MX-5 was carried out under the motto “innovate in order to preserve”. In addition to incorporating SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design, development focused on enhancing the senses and sensations through which people enjoy cars.

Mazda begins production of the all-new MX-5

Mazda Motor Corporation began production in Japan today of its all-new Mazda MX-5 roadster. The models rolling off the assembly line at Ujina Plant No.1 in Hiroshima are initially destined for the domestic market, where sales are slated to begin in June. The MX-5 is then to be rolled out progressively to other regions, arriving in Europe in fall.

The fourth generation of the iconic two-seater perfectly embodies Mazda’s vehicle engineering philosophy: the pursuit of driving pleasure. “Innovate in order to preserve” was the development motto, as Mazda aimed to maintain the Jinba Ittai (“rider and horse as one”) fun element that has always defined the MX-5 while at the same time meeting ever-increase safety and efficiency requirements.

The all-new model is the lightest MX-5 since the first-generation and the first with SKYACTIV Technology, including a choice in Europe of two ultra-efficient lightweight petrol engines delivering 131PS and 160PS. Additional highlights include a sporty KODO – Soul of Motion design, the lowest centre of gravity to date on an MX-5, and a people-oriented interior optimised for open-top driving. It is also available with the MZD Connect smartphone connectivity system and a range of i-ACTIVSENSE active and pre-crash safety technology.

First launched in 1989, the MX-5 instantly revived the market for affordable lightweight sports cars. Some 26 years and almost 200 awards later, the legend is still going strong.
