Androulakis: PASOK will vote for Kaklamanis as Parliament president

PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) will support the candidacy of Nikitas Kaklamanis for Parliament president, it announced on Tuesday.

Kaklamanis was proposed by New Democracy to replace Constantine Tassoulas, who was nominated for Greek

president by the prime minister.

PASOK-KINAL's parliamentary group decision followed the proposal by party leader Nikos Androulakis. "I propose we vote for Nikitas Kaklamanis for Parliament president, highlighting the different way PASOK treats institutions," he said.

"A 30-year political tradition has been broken and [Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis'] handling of the issue of the presidency of the Hellenic Republic does not agree with the spirit of the constitution that demands broad consensus," Androulakis underlined. "PASOK will not follow New Democracy in violating institutional traditions."

The vote for Parliament president will take place on Wednesday (Jan. 22).
