Firefighters Rescue Tourists Trapped on Corfu Beach Path

Ιn a dramatic rescue operation, firefighters  managed to  free two Hungarian tourists who were trapped on a treacherous path at Gyali Beach in Corfu.

The father and son had attempted to hike down a steep, 4-kilometer-long path leading to the sea. Heavy rain, however, made the

return journey perilous. 

The 18-year-old son slipped and fell, fracturing his leg and becoming stranded in an even more inaccessible area.

His wife and children immediately alerted emergency services via the 112 hotline, prompting a swift response from firefighters, an EKAV ambulance, and the Hellenic Police.

Firefighters braved the challenging weather and terrain, using ropes to reach the stranded tourists. 

Due to the difficult conditions, the decision was made to move the injured son and his father to the beach, where a Coast Guard boat transported them to Ermones. From there, an ambulance took them to the hospital for treatment.

Initial reports had mistakenly indicated a female tourist was trapped, likely due to the initial call for help coming from the tourist's wife.
