Insurance Companies and Health Providers to Publish Price Changes Under New Amendment

In a move aimed at increasing transparency, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos presented a new amendment in Parliament, requiring insurance companies and health service providers to publicly disclose changes in their prices.

The amendment mandates that insurance companies publish any premium increases for all health insurance

products, not just long-term policies.

These updates must be clearly displayed in a separate section on the company’s website.

For lifelong health insurance policies, starting in 2026, premium increases will be linked to the Annual Long-Term Health Insurance Adjustment Index (EDA), which will be published each December by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). However, this does not apply to policies with terms that prevent or limit premium adjustments.

Additionally, health providers, such as clinics and diagnostic centers, will be required to post a detailed price list of all their services on their websites.

The list must include the name of each service, the price, the date of the price change, and the percentage increase compared to the previous price.

This measure aims to address the lack of price transparency in both health insurance and private healthcare services.

According to the Ministry, the new rules will help consumers better understand and compare costs, creating a more transparent market for health-related services.
