Pasok leadership race set for October

The stage is set for the leadership elections within the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), as party members gear up to choose their next leader.

Nikos Androulakis, the incumbent, announced that he will seek re-election during the party’s Central Committee meeting. The die has been cast, and the election dates are

confirmed: October 6 and 13.

In a charged atmosphere, Mr. Androulakis stressed his commitment to the party’s future. He admitted past mistakes but launched pointed attacks related to financial interests, vowing not to allow the election to become a mere “catwalk.”

He emphatically dismissed any discussion of the socialist party joining forces with the leftist Syriza party, saying that such alliances would “morally and politically bankrupt the party.”

Haris Doukas, the mayor of Athens, also announced his bid to run for party leader. He urged fro unity and echoed Mr. Androulakis’ proposed timeline.

“Let’s make PASOK a governing force again,” Mr. Doukas said.

The third candidate and a former Culture Minister, Pavlos Geroulanos, also agreed with Mr. Androulakis’ timeline. His speech received positive feedback from the Central Committee.

Questions remain about the other potential candidates, including Nantia Giannakopoulou, Milena Apostolaki, and Michalis Katrinis.
