Citizens defeated government's plans, newly elected Attica region governor says

Attica citizens defeated any governmental plans and interests, the newly elected Attica region governor Rena Dourou said on Monday in an interview to ANA-MPA commenting on the results of the elections.

"During the last four months, there have been two different realities: the reality of the polls, which showed that we were lagging the outgoing Attica region governor," Dourou noted adding that the gap

was estimated at five or six points. "But there was also the reality I saw in the cities, the neighborhoods and the work places which filled me with optimism that we can take our lives in our hands with the help of citizens," she said.

"That is how we moved and eventually managed to prove the 'reality' of the polls wrong, a 'reality' which, unfortunately, was supported by the whole government," Dourou underlined.

Asked on the programme of the first 100 days, she noted: "We will begin with the implementation of decisions taken unanimously by the Regional Council, but they were never materialized. Like, for example, the money for the municipality of Perama, where 1,600 households have been without electricity for many months."
