Samsung Galaxy Note 7: «Τέλος» του smartphone στις ΗΠΑ

Έγκυρες πηγές ήθελαν τη Samsung να προχωράει στο σχεδιασμό ενός νέου update, μέσω του οποίου θα απενεργοποιείται η δυνατότητα φόρτισης. Τελικά με επίσημη ανακοίνωση η ίδια επιβεβαιώνει το γεγονός.

Η Samsung αναφέρει ότι θα φέρει ένα νέο update που δεν θα επιτρέπει στο Galaxy Note

7 να φορτίζει και θα περιορίσει τις δυνατότητές του να λειτουργεί ως mobile συσκευή. Η αναβάθμιση θα ξεκινήσει να δίνεται από 19 Δεκεμβρίου και θα διαμοιραστεί σε όλους μέσα στις επόμενες 30 μέρες. Στόχος της Samsung είναι να ωθήσει όσους έχουν απομείνει, να προχωρήσουν στην ανάκληση του smartphone.

Η επίσημη ανακοίνωση: «Τo further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th and will be distributed within 30 days. This software update will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices. Together with our carrier partners, we will be notifying consumers through multiple touchpoints to encourage any remaining Galaxy Note7 owners to participate in the program and to take advantage of the financial incentives available».

Ωστόσο, το πρόβλημα για τη Samsung είναι ότι δεν συμμετέχουν όλοι οι πάροχοι στον διαμοιρασμό του update που βγάζει εκτός λειτουργίας το κινητό. Η Verizon αποφάσισε να μείνει εκτός λόγω του ότι μπορεί κάποιοι από τους κατόχους του Note 7 να μην έχουν άλλο smartphone. Ο πάροχος δεν θέλει εν μέσω γιορτών να αφήσει τους πελάτες του χωρίς κινητό.

«Verizon will not be taking part in this update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note 7 users that do not have another device to switch to. We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation», η δήλωση της Verizon.

Όσον αφορά στην Ευρώπη, ακόμη δεν έχει γίνει κάποια επίσημη ανακοίνωση για το αν θα προχωρήσει η Samsung σε ανάλογη κίνηση. Αυτό που έχει κάνει είναι να περιορίσει την φόρτιση στο 60%.
