Όλο και περισσότερες αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίες αφήνουν τα δικά τους software στα συστήματα ενημέρωσης και ψυχαγωγίας και στρέφονται σε εταιρίες που ειδικεύονται σε αυτό. Μετά τη Chrysler και η Mercedes-Benz ανακοίνωσε ότι συμφώνησε με την Garmin ώστε να αυτή να ενσωματώσει 100% το interface του συστήματος πλοήγησης στα μελλοντικά

μοντέλα της Mercedes.

Η αλλαγή θα γίνει μέσα στα επόμενα 4 χρόνια, όπου μέχρι το 2017, όλα τα νέα μοντέλα της Mercedes-Benz θα διαθέτουν τους χάρτες και το interface της Garmin. Η εταιρία αναφέρει πως στα μοντέλα αυτά θα υπάρχει και μια δεύτερη, μικρή οθόνη η οποία θα προβάλει λεπτομέρειες σχετικά με τις οδηγίες της διαδρομής. Η χρήση του συστήματος θα γίνεται είτε μέσω της οθόνης αφής είτε μέσω φωνητικών οδηγιών, ενώ αυτό θα συνεργάζεται και με το σύστημα Advanced Driver Assistance της Mercedes-Benz.

Garmin to Provide In-Dash Navigation for Future Mercedes-Benz Models

Garmin’s award-winning navigation will be fully integrated into Mercedes-Benz infotainment systems over the next four years.

In addition to displaying navigation and maps on the in-dash display, users will have access to important driver information, such as next turn, at a glance on a second display, positioned behind the steering wheel. The Mercedes-Benz infotainment systems also allow users to control navigation functions through the system’s rotary controller or via voice command functionality. Furthermore, Garmin’s next-generation navigation software will provide critical positioning information for Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) functionalities of the vehicle to assist drivers in challenging situations.
