Greek Public Servants Ordered to Repay €600,000 in Undue Earnings

Four Greek public servants have been ordered to return over €600,000 in total earnings to the state after an audit by the National Transparency Authority (NTA) revealed they had used fake education degrees and doctored certificates throughout their duties.

The NTA, Greece's independent

authority tasked with combating corruption in the public sector, found that one of the employees had received €371,992 in undue payments.

Another employee was required to repay €139,691, while two others were ordered to return smaller amounts.

The audit did not specify the ministries where the four public servants were employed. In three of the cases, the employees' appointments were revoked, and in one case, their transfer was also revoked.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) is working in coordination with the NTA to conduct inspections in public sector services and agencies to verify the authenticity of employees' educational qualifications.

The Authority is also overseeing the recording of these actions on the ΕΑΔ platform.
