Greece invited to UN peace conference on Syria

“I have decided to invite 10 additional countries besides the 30 countries that have already been invited,” Ban Ki-moon said on Monday. These countries are: Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Greece, the Holy See (Vatican City), Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Republic

of Korea and Iran.
The Secretary General of the United Nations, who is travelling to Montreux, noted that “the enlargement of the international presence that day will be important and useful,” adding that he took the decision after a series of meetings with many leaders from around the world and in order to create the “best possible climate for the success of this vital conference” for peace in Syria.
Ban Ki-moon underlined that Montreux will not be a place for negotiations and that the purpose of the conference will be to demonstrate their solidarity with the Syrian people, who suffered so much and added that the negotiation process to end the civil war in Syria will begin in Geneva on January 24.
Finally, Ban Ki-moon welcomed the decision of the Syrian opposition to take part in the conference.
